Her movie career started in 1981 when she joined Cinema City as an executive director, overseeing administration, financing, and overseas sales. Her colleagues affectionately called her 'Housekeeper' for her efficient management skills. During this time, she worked on hit comedies like 'Aces Go Places II' and 'Till Death Do We Scare'.
In 1984, Shi co-founded Film Workshop with director Tsui Hark, marking a pivotal moment in her career. This production house became a home for unique and innovative projects, including 'Shanghai Blues', 'Peking Opera Blues', and 'A Chinese Ghost Story'.
